Hackers' prank - created taxi chaos in Moscow

Remove

The hacker collective Anonymous, which has declared cyberwar against Russia, claims responsibility for Thursday's attack that caused taxis to block Moscow's rush hour traffic.

On Thursday morning, taxis were queuing in western Moscow, a city that has previously suffered from heavy traffic.

But the delay was no ordinary traffic jam. Instead, taxis from Russian tech giant Yandex were gathered after hackers mass-ordered vehicles for the busy Kutuzovsky Prospect street. The incident is one of the first known times an attack has caused chaos on the roads using an app. It reports Vice

”On the morning of September 1, Yandex Taxi was hit by an attack aimed at disrupting the service – several dozen drivers received multiple orders to the Fili district of Moscow,” a company spokesperson told the site.

Yandex Taxi has not confirmed who carried out the attack, but in a statement on Twitter, the hacker collective Anonymous claims responsibility, reports The Verge. The group claims to have worked with Ukraine's unofficial cyber army, which previously helped the Ukrainian government in connection with Russia's invasion of the country.

Anonymous has previously declared cyberwar against Russia and claims that they hacked Russian television channels to show clips and music that were banned in the country.

It doesn't stand out. For example, several hacking groups have joined forces against Western companies that have not clearly distanced themselves from Russia after the invasion. In an interview with Di from April says Christopher Ahlberg, who is the CEO of the world's largest private intelligence service Recorded Future, that groups that seemed inactive two years ago have now been revived.

”Hacking groups like Anonymous and Cyber Partisans have returned with full force.”
