There is heavy pressure on SJ's night trains from Gothenburg and Stockholm, as many mountain tourists want to go up to Norrbotten and hike right now. This is despite the fact that the high season has not even started.
– We saw this already when it became known that the restrictions would change from June 13; that we received many more bookings than we had previously, says Jan Kyrk, Business Manager at SJ.
As of June 13, asymptomatic people will be allowed to travel within Sweden. The decision is based on a reduced spread of infection in the country and is based on everyone continuing to take great personal responsibility and following recommendations for social distancing, according to the government.
”Not everyone will get tickets”
SJ has seen a significant increase in mountain tourists on the trains north, and when the peak season starts in the mountains, it is not believed that everyone who wants to will be able to buy tickets on the trains.
– No, not everyone will get it. Partly, we will not sell all the seats on board – based on this matter of keeping distance, we will block a number of seats in order to be able to keep distance. Partly, also because last summer there were already a lot of people who wanted to travel to and from upper Norrland, says Jan Kyrk.
