The tragic accident on the Jetline roller coaster at Gröna Lund had a major impact on the amusement park's peak season. The unstable weather and increasingly strained household finances are also believed to be behind the park's visitor numbers falling by just over 30% compared to the previous year. Towards the end of the summer, visitor numbers increased again and the opening day for Halloween on October 13 is already sold out.
The tragic accident in Jetline, the uncertain financial situation for households and the unstable weather left their mark on Gröna Lund's summer season in 2023. Overall, this affected the visitor numbers, which ended up at a total of 719,671 guests, a decrease of just over 30 % compared to the previous year. Visitor numbers turned upwards towards the end of the summer, but the loss that occurred in July and August could not be recovered.
– The summer of 2023 was difficult for Gröna Lund and the tragic accident in Jetline affected our operations in many ways, not only through visitor numbers. This is something we will always carry with us. Guests returned towards the end of the summer and there seems to be a lot of interest in our Halloween celebration, which warms the heart, says Jan Eriksson, CEO of Gröna Lund.
Friday, October 13th marks the start of Halloween at Gröna Lund, a season that has become increasingly popular over the years, with the premiere date already sold out. Halloween at Gröna Lund consists of 16 days filled with spooky fun and friendly characters for the younger ones and evil creatures and horror houses for the older ones.
