Over three million passengers passed through Copenhagen Airport during the first summer month of the year – an increase of nine percent compared to the same period last year. Spain is the most popular holiday destination, while Greece tops the list among charter guests.

Summer means vacation. Many people travel to beaches and sunny experiences in the warmth of the south, while international tourists flock to Copenhagen to experience the capital and the rest of Denmark. This creates a lot of activity at Copenhagen Airport, where 3.1 million passengers passed through the terminals in June. ”Summer has got off to a good start at Copenhagen Airport, where the very special holiday atmosphere is spreading. We have never had a June with over three million passengers before, so the terminals are fully occupied. But we are well prepared and are doing everything we can to ensure that travelers have a good experience when traveling through the airport,” says Peter Krogsgaard, Commercial Director at Copenhagen Airport.
 Spain is a holiday favorite
Spain remains the most popular holiday destination, followed by Italy, France, Greece and Turkey. In June, 240,000 passengers flew between Copenhagen and sunny Spanish destinations such as Malaga, Mallorca and Barcelona.
”"Spain is a classic with a guarantee of good weather and a holiday atmosphere, which attracts many Danes. Almost one in ten of all passengers in June flew between Copenhagen and one of the 11 Spanish destinations. More Spaniards have also opened their eyes to Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia, which they choose to visit during the summer," says Peter Krogsgaard.

Greece is a favorite among charter guests. More than half of all charter flights from Copenhagen go to Greece, with the islands of Crete and Rhodes being the most popular destinations.
More Americans and Brits are traveling to Copenhagen Denmark and Copenhagen is also a popular destination for many tourists. 37 percent of all passengers at the airport are international travelers arriving in Copenhagen as tourists or visitors.
Almost one in five – 18 percent – of international travelers arriving in Copenhagen come from the UK, while Americans make up 12 percent. This is an increase of four and three percentage points respectively compared to last year.
 – We are seeing a clear increase in the number of Americans and Britons traveling to Copenhagen and the rest of Denmark via Copenhagen Airport. Denmark is an attractive country to visit with a lot to offer, and with several new routes, it has also become easier to get here, says Peter Krogsgaard.

Overall, Danish travelers make up about a third of all passengers at Copenhagen Airport, Swedes account for 15 percent, while the rest are mainly distributed among Britons, Americans, Germans and Norwegians.

New summer routes from Copenhagen
During the summer, there are so far 317 direct routes from Copenhagen to 171 destinations in 52 countries to choose from.
 – We have 13 new destinations on the route map this summer, so there are plenty of opportunities to reach out into the world. In June, SAS opened a new route to Nuuk, while FlyOne started flying to Chișinău, which is the first direct route to Moldova since 2019, says Peter Krogsgaard.
Routes to Europe accounted for 86 percent of traffic in June, while 330,000 passengers traveled on one of the 41 long-haul routes to and from Copenhagen – including two new routes to Seattle and Minneapolis operated by SAS and Delta Air Lines, respectively.
