Those planning a train journey home over the Christmas holidays should make sure to stay awake when the clock strikes midnight on Wednesday. That's when SJ will release its highly anticipated tickets for all departures between December 11th and March 12th.

– We're expecting a lot of traffic on the website. The entire Swedish population will be travelling now, and many people want tickets, so it will be interesting to follow, says Jonas Olsson, press officer at SJ.

Ahead of the release, SJ has reinforced its servers to avoid the website crashing, and there will be a larger night-time staffing than usual.

Tickets for Christmas and New Year were originally meant to be released in September. However, delayed planning from the Swedish Transport Administration to the train companies meant that ticket bookings were put on hold.

– We didn’t get these times until the end of October. We would have preferred them earlier in order to make our plan with several thousand departures per day and schedules to be drawn up, so it has been very rushed work, says Jonas Olsson.

According to him, no extra departures will be released beyond those going out tonight.
