A homeless 54-year-old man was referred to a dilapidated apartment in Hagfors in Värmland by Spånga-Tensta district administration.

When he didn't want to move 330 kilometers away, he no longer received any help from social services and started taking the ferry to Mariehamn and back, writes the magazine Hem & hyra. Now he "lives" on the Ålandsbåten, because during the low season it is the cheapest overnight accommodation option, including breakfast, in Stockholm.

The man ended up on the street after falling ill and being rejected by the Swedish Employment Agency and the Swedish Social Insurance Agency because he did not meet their requirements, the newspaper writes. Until a few weeks ago, he had been living in a hotel on-call, but when he had not been active enough in his housing search, he was referred to the apartment in Hagfors.

The property where the apartment is located is still rented by the Migration Board and is considered unfit for rent, which has led to the Migration Board terminating the contract and moving out all asylum seekers. Now the 54-year-old is hoping for emergency housing from the City of Stockholm.
