Domestic travel continues to increase. According to Interbus, trips during the first nine months of the year – January-September – increased by ten percent compared to the previous year. But the difficulties in finding trained bus drivers are hampering development.

The bus industry now seems to have recovered quite well after a couple of tough years in connection with the pandemic. During January-September this year, trips increased by ten percent compared to last year, which was a fourfold increase compared to the pandemic year 2021.

The important summer season has shown stable demand, with mainly travelers from Sweden and Europe. However, driving assignments for tourists from Asia and America have decreased significantly compared to before the pandemic.

– It is primarily on the corporate side that we have increased. Conference runs have increased sharply again and are at a higher level than before the pandemic. There seems to be a great need to meet and interact, says Roger Mathiasson, CEO of Interbus.

The company is looking to the future with confidence and expects increasing volumes. However, the shortage of drivers is something that risks hampering development and now the industry needs to get a little better at marketing the bus driver profession.

– Being a bus driver is something that suits many people. It is a social job and you get to see many beautiful places in the country. It can be perfect for people over 50 who are tired of their office job and want to do something different in the last years of their professional life, says Roger Mathiasson.

According to the press release.
