Jernhusen has won in a double category, Station & Urban Design and Small Stations, at the prestigious Railway Station Awards 2025 in Paris, France. The awards are presented by the International Union of Railways (UIC) and UIC's Station Managers Global Group (SMGG). The purpose of the competition and awards is to highlight the world's leading stations in terms of design, function, and sustainability.

– We are incredibly proud. Winning in all the categories we entered shows that our long-term work in developing stations that function in people's everyday lives truly makes a difference. I am, of course, especially proud of Varberg station, which we opened here in July this year and which is winning in the Station & Urban Design category. The station connects the city across the tracks and creates a new hub for both travel and everyday life on the west coast, says Freddie Bergkvist, regional manager at Jernhusen.

In the Station & Urban Design category, the Bioclimatic Atlas of Major Paris Train Stations – AREP (France) is also honoured. Varberg station is recognised for its innovative design and as a strong role model for the development of future stations. The station's architecture and design are the work of Okidoki Arkitekter.

In the Small Stations category, Svenska Reseterminaler was recognised for its unique business model which makes it possible to develop safe terminals even in smaller locations. Through its work, Svenska Reseterminaler strengthens the role of the railway as the backbone of the entire country.

– This award means a great deal to us. In our long, narrow country, conditions for travellers vary depending on weather, population, and service. If there's a traffic disruption or it's minus 22 degrees Celsius outside, the need for a waiting room for shelter and warmth is just as great in a small town as in larger cities. The station often becomes more than just a place for travel in smaller towns – it becomes part of everyday life where people meet and cooperate on good local solutions, says Marina Berggren, head of Swedish Travel Terminals.

The competition attracted over 50 entries from around the world, with 31 UIC members participating from Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Latin America. Jernhusen's double win is a testament to Swedish expertise in sustainable station and urban development.

The winners of the Railway Station Awards 2025 were announced at a special ceremony at UIC headquarters in Paris on 16 October 2025, led by Fabrice Morénon, Chairman of SMGG, and Paul Van Doninck, Vice-Chairman.

Railway Station Awards 2025 marks a milestone in recognising how railway stations, both large and small, contribute to the future of sustainable mobility, strengthen urban cohesion, and improve passenger experiences.
