Liseberg is postponing its opening indefinitely due to COVID-19. The amusement park announced this on its website. Almost 300 permanent employees are on short-term leave, and some contracts with seasonal employees cannot be signed yet, according to the Gothenburg Post. 

The plan was for the amusement park in Gothenburg to open its doors on April 25th, but it was later postponed until May 16th. Now they have announced that they have been forced to postpone the season premiere indefinitely. The background is the government's decision to ban events and public gatherings for more than 50 people.

”"We don't have permission to open the park right now. That means we're working one week at a time," says Liseberg's head of information Julia Vasilis to Göteborgsposten.

The newspaper notes that almost 300 of the 450 permanent employees at Liseberg are now on part-time leave. Seasonal employees are also in danger.

”"We cannot sign contracts with our 2,000 seasonal employees yet," says Liseberg CEO Andreas Andersen at a press conference, according to GP.

GP writes that just moving the premiere from April 25 to May 16 meant around 100 million kronor in lost revenue, but that Andreas Andersen does not want to specify how much the park will lose if the closure continues during the high season.

The amusement park's accommodation facilities, Lisebergsbyn and Liseberg Hotell Heden, are open as usual. Askim Strand has not yet opened for the season, but the opening has been postponed to June 5.
