Complaints to the Swedish Consumer Agency increased last year. The most common complaints were about problems with cancelled and delayed flights.
A total of 122,300 complaints were received by the Swedish Consumer Agency last year, an increase of 4,400 in one year.
The coronavirus pandemic and restrictions to prevent the spread of the infection, such as travel restrictions and limits on events, are reflected in the complaints.
The absolute majority of complaints concerned problems related to air travel. A total of nine percent of complaints concerned flights, a doubling compared to 2019.
The Swedish Consumer Agency estimates that around one sixth of the complaints in 2020 were ”corona-related”. In addition to airline tickets, this includes things like package tours and events that have been cancelled, hotel bookings that have come to nothing and problems with travel agencies.
”Difficult to get in touch with travel agencies”
– Many consumers have suffered, among other things, from non-refund for cancelled flights, had difficulty getting in touch with travel agencies and felt frustrated with how they have been treated by travel companies, says Maja Lindstrand, lawyer at the Swedish Consumer Agency, in a press release.
After air travel, used cars and handyman services generated the most complaints. These categories usually rank at the top.
