Three out of four travelers choose trains as their means of public transport and interest in night trains is increasing the most, according to SJ's own survey.

The train is popular as a public transport method in Sweden, according to a Sifo survey conducted on behalf of SJ.

”We are seeing an increasing interest in traveling by train in general,” says SJ's communications strategist Karin Starkman Ahlstedt.

This is despite the fact that there are many reasons why trains are delayed, such as switch failures, accidents, and signal failures.

Of those who responded in the survey that they plan to travel domestically, 74 percent stated train as their preferred mode of transport, 33 percent flight and 21 percent bus. SJ explains the great interest in trains by saying that it is simple, environmentally friendly and convenient.

”You travel from point to point. You don't have to go to the airport two hours before departure and you can do things, such as work, during the journey.”

SJ is also noting an increased interest in night trains. Night train bookings north to the Swedish ski resorts during January-March have increased by 10 percent, compared to the same time last year.

”"If you take a night train, you can take it easy on the way and arrive drowsy, you don't have to sit behind the wheel and drive."”
