The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) believes that the train companies operating on Swedish railways are behind almost a hundred of the forest fires that have ravaged the country this summer.
Leif Sandahl, fire engineer at MSB, tells SVT News that it is sparks that are formed when the trains are running that are behind the fires in question.
"It's time for them to think about it. They can't go around throwing fire at the same time as there's a grilling ban," he says.
One of the companies singled out is the logistics company Green Cargo, which was reported to the police in connection with extensive forest fires in Värmland at the beginning of the summer.
– I see that this police report is very important from a liability perspective. If they were the perpetrators or responsible, it is clear that they cannot continue to engage in such criminal activities, as this is the case, says Sandahl.
Green Cargo has previously said that it is not possible to say with certainty that it was their train that caused the fire in the police report.
The company also refers to the Swedish Transport Administration, which makes decisions about train traffic.
