For the first time in 30 years, a new large ski resort is opening in Sweden.
Idre Himmelfjäll in Dalarna will have 50 slopes when the facility is fully completed. Starting today, you can book a winter vacation at the new ski resort.
The new ski resort Idre Himmelsfjäll will open on December 17th and bookings for the winter season open today. The season runs from December 17th to April 19th, 2020.
The facility is located on the slopes of Himmeråsen, west of Idre Fjäll and east of Burusjön, Städjan and Nipfjället nature reserve.
In the first phase, there will be 18 slopes, ski equipment and snowmobile rentals. There will also be nice cross-country skiing trails, ski camps and competitions. In addition, all children can see how Santa prepares for Christmas the day before Christmas Eve. This is done in collaboration with the fairy tale land Tomteland, which is one of Sweden's largest theme parks. The fairy tale world is staged with musicals and live theater.
– Many families with children are guaranteed to be delighted with Idre Himmelfjäll and our ski resort with slopes that wind their way through genuine mountain nature, says Torbjörn Wallin, CEO of Idre Himmelfjäll.
Frida Hansdotter is involved
When Idre Himmelfjäll is fully developed in 15 to 20 years, it will be able to offer guests over 20,000 beds, around 50 alpine slopes, hotels, restaurants, shops and associated services.
One of Idre Himmelfjäll's many advisors in the design and construction of the facility is alpine superstar Frida Hansdotter.
– It feels absolutely fantastic that we can finally open bookings. Idre Himmelfjäll is a unique destination with real mountains and activities, anyone who books will experience something completely new, says Torbjörn Wallin.
For the first time in 30 years, a new large ski resort is opening in Sweden. Idre Himmelfjäll will be the largest tourist venture in the Swedish mountains since Kläppen was built in Sälen in the 1980s.
