The latest survey by travel agency Ticket shows that 32 percent worry about getting sick while on vacation. At the same time, it also shows that men are generally more carefree than women. The survey also shows that concerns about terrorist attacks have decreased – from 28 percent (2017) to 16 percent.
Traveling abroad is a chance to relax, discover new places and enjoy well-deserved time off – which is why the worry about getting sick is high. According to the latest survey by travel agency Ticket, 32 percent are nervous about getting sick either before or during a trip abroad. Those aged 40–49 feel the most nervous, with a full 41 percent experiencing illness as a cause for concern before the trip.
– Swedes tend to worry more about everyday events such as getting sick, rather than the very low risk of being exposed to terrorist attacks. The proportion who are concerned about terrorist attacks has decreased from 28 to 16 percent compared to our survey from 2017, says Tiyoneh Jah, PR & Communications Manager at travel agency Ticket.
Other common concerns among Swedes include lost luggage (18 percent), bad weather (17 percent), and flight delays or cancellations (15 percent). The survey also shows that men are generally more carefree than women. 21 percent of men say they are not nervous about anything at all before the trip, compared to only 11 percent of women.
The five most experienced concerns in connection with foreign travel
1. That I will get sick either before or during the trip (32 percent)
2. That the luggage will get lost (18 percent)
3. Bad weather during the trip (17 percent)
4. Terrorist attacks (16 percent)
5. Flight delays/cancellations (15 percent)
Source: The survey was conducted by the opinion and market research company YouGov. During the period 13 – 16 December 2024, a total of 1018 interviews were conducted online with a nationally representative sample of men and women 18+. The respondents answered the question: what are you most nervous about before/during a holiday abroad? Where they could provide a maximum of 3 answers.
