Norwegian authorities are introducing a ban on the serving of alcohol throughout the country, Norwegian media reports. The new restrictions will come into effect on the night of March 25 and will remain in effect until April 12.

”"I know this will provoke reactions," says Health Minister Bent Høie at a press conference.

The rules include a stop to all alcohol service, that indoor sports may not be practiced by adults except at a professional level, that entertainment venues such as amusement parks and bingo halls must close, and that swimming pools should only be open for children's swimming training, writes The World's End.

Travelers from abroad must be quarantined in a hotel for ten days and can no longer show a negative corona test after three days in order to leave the hotel.

Indoors, a maximum of 20 people are allowed to gather at events, outdoors the limit is 50 people. At funerals, 50 people are allowed.

Norway has more cases of coronavirus infections than during the entire pandemic and the number of patients in hospitals with virus symptoms is at the same level as April last year.

Recommendations are also being introduced, including that children are only allowed to have one to two friends on home visits. The distance that should be kept from other people is changed from one to two meters. In all places where it is not possible to keep a distance of two meters, face masks should be used.

Norwegian citizens should only visit shopping malls and department stores in the municipality they are registered in. The government advises against all unnecessary travel, except to work, to the home town for students, and to vacation homes with immediate family.
