Airlines Norwegian and Finnair both increased the number of passengers by around 40 percent in December, compared to the corresponding month the previous year.
Norwegians Passenger traffic increased by 41 percent to 1.3 million in December, according to traffic figures for the final month of 2022.
The 41 percent increase is compared to the same month a year earlier. In a summary for the full year, 18 million passengers were flown. This is triple the number of passengers in 2021, which was marked by the pandemic and great difficulties for the industry.
”"The year ended with stable operations during Christmas when extra people traveled. In 2022, the number of passengers tripled, demand for air travel returned and the positive booking trends continue," the company writes.
The cabin load factor was 77.8 percent. Capacity (ASK) was 2,120 million seat kilometers while actual passenger traffic (RPK) was 1,650 million seat kilometers.
Meanwhile, the Finnish airline Finnair flew 833,000 passengers in December, an increase of 38 percent compared to the same month a year earlier, according to a traffic report.
December compared to November shows an increase of 11 percent, but it is not fully comparable as November contains one less day.
Capacity measured as ASK increased by 13 percent and revenue per seat kilometer (RPK) increased by 51 percent.
SAS will release traffic figures for December on January 10.
