An independent report from the consulting firm Ramboll shows that Norwegian's operations create thousands of jobs and promote tourism and trade.
In early December, Norwegian launched the report ”Norwegian's Socioeconomic Impact in the Nordic Region”. The launch took place at the Norwegian Embassy in Stockholm in collaboration with the Norwegian Ambassador to Sweden, Niels Engelschiøn. Speakers also included State Secretary Johan Davidson and representatives from the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, Ramboll, Visit Sweden, Visita and the Norwegian-Swedish Chamber of Commerce.
“Good air connections are crucial for a country’s accessibility, and there is a clear link between increased flight capacity and economic growth. When regions are well connected to the outside world, conditions are created for trade, investment, tourism and knowledge exchange – factors that drive productivity and strengthen competitiveness,” says Norwegian’s CEO Geir Karlsen.
The report is based on extensive data from the aviation industry, public sources and economic models – and shows Norwegian's socio-economic importance for Sweden and the Nordic region.
In Sweden, Norwegian contributed to over 7,600 jobs and generated EUR 430 million in direct and indirect value. The corresponding figures for the entire Nordic region are 19,200 jobs and EUR 1.6 billion in direct and indirect value. In addition, Norwegian's flights in the Nordic region contribute to increased economic growth through tourism, trade and regional cohesion, creating tens of thousands of additional jobs and a value of over EUR 12 billion.
Ramboll also analyses Norwegian's emissions in relation to societal benefits. Reducing emissions from aviation is crucial for a sustainable future and is associated with a large societal cost. Achieving both climate goals and regional accessibility requires balanced and effective policy and regulatory frameworks that promote investments in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and technological development – i.e. instruments that support the transition without compromising mobility and growth.
