Last Friday, December 16, another new international direct route from Luleå was launched. France's largest tour operator Quartier Libre and the airline Transavia France are offering direct service between Luleå and Paris for 14 weeks during the winter season. The route is a combination of charter for incoming tourists and regular traffic for inbound and outbound travel.
For the first time, travelers from France can choose Luleå as a charter destination, with direct flights from Paris every Friday for 14 weeks during the winter season. A large part of the seats will be chartered and sold through one of France's largest tour operators, Quartier Libre, but the remaining capacity is available for purchase of regular tickets through Transavia France, which means that the region's residents and businesses can fly regularly directly to France for the first time.
On Friday, December 16th at 4:50 PM, the first flight from Paris Orly landed at Luleå Airport with expectant travelers. An hour later, the plane returned to Paris with the first departing passengers.
All travelers were welcomed with a red carpet, snacks and were wished a nice stay or pleasant trip.
Swedavia, together with Luleå Business Region, Quartier Libre, Transavia France and Fredrik Hansson, municipal councilor of Luleå Municipality, demonstrated the importance of the new connection for the region at the inauguration of the first arrival and departure.
– The opening, which was carried out by Swedavia together with Luleå Municipality, Transavia, Quartier Libre, Luleå Business Region and municipal councilor Fredrik Hansson, was a success, says Ann-Christin Viklund, Luleå Airport Station Manager at Swedavia. The direct flight is important not only for incoming travelers and the local tourism industry, but also for Swedes who want to visit France and Paris this winter.
