Better compensation rules for delays, easier purchase of tickets for long, continuous journeys and the right to take your bicycle with you.
These are some of the improvements that the European Parliament wants to bring about for Europe's train passengers.
”"It is unacceptable that it should be so difficult to make longer train journeys in Europe. If we are to reduce flying, it must become easier to travel abroad by train," said Swedish MEP Jakop Dalunde (MP) in a statement after Thursday's vote in Strasbourg.
The changes are part of a proposal that the European Commission presented last autumn. However, it is still necessary for the EU countries' transport ministers to agree on their views on the matter before compromise negotiations can begin.
