Last week, over three million Swedes received their tax refunds. According to recent booking figures from travel operator TUI, the record-breaking payments have led to a rush for holiday trips. Compared to last year, bookings at TUI have increased by over ten percent.
It is mainly trips during the popular holiday weeks in June and July that are being booked right now.
– It is clear from our bookings that many Swedes have received an extra boost to their household budgets. The last two weeks have been our best sales period since the beginning of the year. The majority of trips booked right now are trips during the high season, which is the period when many families with children travel and travel prices are generally higher, says Dian Martinez Valencia, communications manager at TUI.
Among the most booked destinations are several popular destinations such as Rhodes, Crete, Cyprus and Mallorca. At the same time, TUI sees that Turkey has had a very positive booking rate in connection with the tax refund.
– Many families with children are booking their summer trip now, and Turkey, with its many all-inclusive resorts, is a very popular destination for this customer group. The hotels and service are of a very high standard and you get a lot more travel for your money compared to many other destinations around the Mediterranean, says Dian Martinez Valencia, communications manager at TUI.
