In the annual survey that the industry organisation SCR Svensk Camping conducts among its members, 85 percent state that they have had better or equally good occupancy rates as in 2017.

The Swedish camping industry has experienced an upward trend for many years now. And there’s no indication that this trend is about to be broken. This year's survey among SCR Swedish Camping's members rather indicates an unusually large increase in the number of guest nights. In figures, this means that 85 percent of the campsites that participated in the survey state that they had better or equally good occupancy as in 2017, and 34 percent state that they have increased by as much as 10 percent or more.

– Last year, Sweden's campsites had 15.7 million guest nights. 2018 is now looking to be another record year and we expect to reach more than 16 million guest nights, says Peter Jansson, acting CEO of SCR Svensk Camping.

Among the respondents, the average increase in occupancy is in the range of 3 – 4.5 percent. And motorhomes are the form of accommodation that continues to grow the most.

Looking more closely at the figures, it can be seen that international guests have also increased. 89 percent of members report better or equally good occupancy of international guests compared to 2017, and 23 percent state that occupancy has increased by 10 percent or more.

– Our long-term work with marketing and the goal of making Sweden Europe's best camping destination are yielding results, says Peter Jansson.

The ancillary services offered by campsites, such as activities, restaurants, and shops, are also showing significant increases. 78 percent of members report increased sales of ancillary services, and 48 percent state that sales have increased by more than 10 percent.

– These figures show that the high standard, service and range of activities at our campsites continue to attract more Swedish and international tourists to Swedish camping experiences every year, says Peter Jansson.

The survey covers bookings up to and including week 34 and applies to members of the industry organisation SCR Svensk Camping.
