British engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce, which is big in shipping and aviation, has developed a propulsion system for a flying taxi.

The company is now starting to look for partners and the hope is that the technology will be in place for consumers as early as the next decade.

It reports Reuters. The car will be able to carry four to five people at a speed of about 400 kilometers per hour. The distance will be about 800 miles. Rolls-Royce is not alone in looking at the area of flying taxis.

Uber, Airbus and Google are among the players investing in flying taxi technology. This week, the important Farnborough International Airshow takes place in the UK.
