October 13, 2022 Royal Jordanian Airlines will start a new Arlanda-Amman non-stop route for the summer 2023 program, twice a week with Airbus A320. At the same time, the current route from Copenhagen will be expanded from two to several days a week.
Oneworld member Royal Jordanian, RJ, sees Scandinavia as an important part of an ambitious plan to increase tourism investment in Jordan, but also to make Amman the most central hub in the Levant, previously competing with Beirut. RJ will expand its focus on becoming the leading tourism operator to the area, something that the Stockholm route is a testament to.
This was stated by Karim Makhlouf, Chief Commercial Officer for RJ, at a networking event in Stockholm at Biblioteket Live, for organizers, partners, press, authorities and diplomats.
The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Jordan Tourism Board. Now they also want to arrange trips that show Jordan's high-class wine production, fashion scene, food culture and music, including opera! Jordan is already known for the red desert rock city of Petra, with its unique architecture carved directly into the rock and ingenious water supply systems. A short hop and you can experience the unique spa culture around the Dead Sea and thus the lowest point on Earth and Aqaba on the crystal clear Red Sea, with rich marine life and corals, as well as for the historical artifacts of the capital Amman and the ancient Roman city of Jerash, as well as several Christian and Muslim sites of importance. The short distances within Jordan provide further advantages for a richly spiced holiday.
Makhlouf also said that Royal Jordanian recently signed an agreement with Airbus to exchange the airline's 13 Airbus 319/320ceo for 20 brand new A320 Neos. In addition, there is an MoU, an agreement in principle, to acquire ten Embraer E190-E2 and E195-E2, for just over 100 passengers for an investment in regional connections within two hours from Amman to increase transfer traffic to and from, for example, Greece, Cyprus, Egypt, Iraq, Israel and Lebanon. The new planes provide 25 percent lower emissions than previously used, but also better comfort with 2+2 seating in economy and business class with ample seat pitch. RJ has long had a good reputation on the service side, which will be further strengthened. The Boeing Dreamliner fleet will also be expanded from seven to eleven on the long-haul side, possibly also with the larger models.
