Airlines Finnair and SAS have been affected by the major protests that have led to the suspension of traffic at Hong Kong airport.

”We had one flight cancelled yesterday and one that was severely delayed,” says Manti Väätäinen-Pereira, press spokesperson for Finnair., to TT on Tuesday.

She states that approximately 500 passengers were affected by Monday's disruptions.

The following day, air traffic at Hong Kong airport resumed after being suspended on Monday afternoon. However, new protests led to the suspension of traffic again later on Tuesday.

Finnair has two flights from Helsinki to Hong Kong per day. One of Tuesday's flights has taken off and the latter will proceed as planned.

However, the flight that is scheduled to return from Hong Kong shortly after midnight local time will be severely delayed.

SAS does not fly to Hong Kong on Mondays and Tuesdays. However, a flight from Hong Kong to Copenhagen was affected by the disruption on Monday and the 249 passengers were rebooked, according to the company.

On Wednesday, a plane is scheduled to depart from Copenhagen at 9 p.m. and it is still on hold, but the company is following developments closely, says Freja Annamatz, press manager for SAS Sweden.

”We have also offered all passengers booked between August 14 and 19 the opportunity to rebook for free.”
