A stranded Polish family chartered a private jet to get home from Svalbard. In a settlement, SAS is now agreeing to cover a large portion of the cost of the private flight, writes Today's Law.
The family, which included ten people, was in Svalbard last summer. During the trip, they received news that a close relative had passed away and that a funeral had been booked within a few days.
Due to the SAS strike that broke out, the family was unable to travel home as planned. In the end, the family chartered a private jet for a cost of 90,000 euros.
They later filed a lawsuit with Solna District Court demanding compensation from SAS.
In March this year received an email from SAS customer service stating that the company had decided to pay out just over one million kronor. But some time later, SAS filed a response and an application for restitution against the family. According to the company, the payment was a mistake and the money was demanded back.
The parties have now reached a settlement. According to the agreement, the family only needs to repay 200,000 kronor.
