SAS's scheduled passenger traffic (RPK) was down 86.7 percent in September, compared to the same month last year. The decrease is greater than August's minus 83 percent.

Capacity in scheduled traffic per available seat kilometer (ASK) was down 71.3 percent in the month, compared to September last year, according to a press release.

During the month traveled 0.6 million passengers with SAS and the company reports a capacity reduction of 73 percent compared to the same period last year.

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to negatively impact SAS's traffic. In September, the total number of passengers amounted to 614,000, a decrease of 2.3 million, while total capacity was 72.7 percent lower, compared to the same period last year. 

Demand for domestic traffic continues to be stronger than European and intercontinental traffic and SAS has adapted the network accordingly, the company writes. 

”"Since March, when almost all of our traffic was stopped, we have slowly started to build our network again. We now have close to 380 daily departures to 75 destinations," says CEO Richard Gustafson.

Overall demand continues to be heavily driven by travel restrictions and in September additional countries were classified as "red", which reduced the number of passengers slightly compared to August.

Looking ahead, we continue to monitor market developments and are ready to make further adjustments based on how demand develops," says Rickard Gustafson, CEO of SAS.
