The Swiss airline PrivatAir, which until last year flew for SAS on the Copenhagen - New York route, has filed for bankruptcy in Switzerland and Germany.

This was reported by the aviation industry website Check-in.dk on Friday based on a press release from PrivatAir.

The airline flew the Boeing 737-700 aircraft "Eivind Viking" for SAS SAS +2,48% during 2014-2017. It was first used on the Stavanger–Houston route for two years, and in 2016 it was used on the Copenhagen–Boston route.

Since October 2016, the company has been 51 percent owned by the private investment company Silver Arrow Capital, controlled by German Thomas Limberger.
