Severe train delays

Remove

Ahead of the long weekend, train traffic is at a standstill in several places in Central Sweden.

An electrical fault has hindered traffic in Norrköping seeat ten o'clock this morning - and it is not expected to be resolved until midnight.

At 9:30 on Wednesday morning, there was a stop on the southern main line in Norrköping.

A downed overhead contact line has slowed traffic considerably on a day with large numbers of Ascension Day travelers.

During the afternoon, a track near Norrköping was opened. By midnight, it is hoped that traffic will be able to resume as usual.

There are severe delays and cancelled trains throughout the day, as the forecast has been pushed forward during the day, says Pär Aronsson at the Swedish Transport Administration's press service. Then we will see about the morning traffic, as it is a red day tomorrow and not as many people are at work. People are out and about so we hope to be up and running until then.

In Sundbyberg north of Stockholm, an electrical fault is causing delays for both long-distance and commuter trains passing through. Repairmen have been working on the site to allow one track to be used.

The delays are about half an hour, says Pär Aronsson.

Long-distance trains affected are those running between Stockholm and Västerås. The forecast for the problems in Sundbyberg is set for 9 p.m.

SJ has cancelled its Uven trains between Eskilstuna and Norrköping during the day. The fast trains have been rerouted via Hallsberg and Mjölby.

You can expect longer travel times, says SJ's press communicator Annie Edwards. We are doing everything we can to get buses, but unfortunately it looks quite dark.

Annie Edwards urges SJ customers who have the option to travel on another day to rebook their journey. Due to the traffic disruptions, even those who have not purchased rebookable tickets will be able to rebook their journeys.

”We have opened the disruption booking for all affected trains,” says Edwards.

Affected routes
Routes affected on Wednesday are, according to the Swedish Transport Administration:
Stockholm C-Nyköping/Norrköping–Malmö/Copenhagen.

Östgötatrafiken's shuttle, Norrköping-Mjölby-Motala/Tranås.
