Shanghai extends lockdown

Shanghai, which has been under lockdown since last week to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the city, had planned to reopen on Tuesday. But now it is making a U-turn. In order to evaluate the testing strategy used in the city, it has chosen to extend the restrictions until further notice, Reuters reports.

The decision to impose a lockdown on the city has been met with criticism among Shanghai's 26 million residents. Several residents say it is difficult to obtain food and medical help, the news agency writes.

It's sold out, complain residents trying to order groceries from online stores. Some Shanghai residents have received small shipments of meat and vegetables from the authorities, but it's unclear how long they will last, TT reports.
