On Monday, August 21, SJ will once again start operating high-speed trains between Malmö and Gothenburg. The journey takes 2:35 hours and is the fastest way to travel along the west coast.
SJ will resume service between Malmö and Gothenburg from Monday 21 August. On weekdays there will be seven departures in each direction and on weekends there will be four departures in each direction. All trains have a bistro. Breakfast is included in 1st class and in 2nd class it is free for departures before 9am. In 1st class it is also possible to pre-order food. All trains stop in Malmö, Lund, Helsingborg, Halmstad and Gothenburg.
Compared to a car trip on the E6, SJ's train is both faster and more comfortable.
-For both companies and private individuals, the train has an important role on the west coast. During the summer, there has been a difficult traffic situation. To some extent, the express buses we have offered have eased the situation while the track work has been ongoing. Now passengers can also choose to travel with our express trains. From August 21, we will welcome our passengers on board, says Gabriella Sjöberg, SJ's business manager for Malmö-Gothenburg traffic.
On weekdays, the service is designed to suit business travellers with departures as early as 5.17am from Malmö to Gothenburg and 6.24am from Gothenburg to Malmö, and then frequently throughout the day. The fact that the train, in addition to Gothenburg and Malmö, only stops in Lund, Helsingborg and Halmstad creates good conditions for making good use of the travel time to work.
During weekends, traffic is more geared towards leisure travelers. Then SJ's trains are the fast and convenient way to travel along the west coast to visit family and friends or to take a pleasure trip to Gothenburg or Malmö.
-After track work in 2025, we are planning for both more departures and a shorter travel time of 2:15 between Malmö and Gothenburg. With our new fast trains, which we hope can start running in 2026-2027, we will also be able to offer up to 100 percent more seats on the line so that we can meet the high demand, says Gabriella Sjöberg.
