The Skåne Cycle Route with its three sub-sections will become a regional tourism cycle route. The Swedish Transport Administration has decided this. The three sub-sections extend between Kristianstad – Ängelholm, Ystad – Båstad and Lomma – Kristianstad. The inauguration is planned for the summer of 2023.
Together with 17 municipalities in Skåne, Region Skåne is creating the conditions for a vibrant and accessible Skåne through continued investments in trails for recreation and tourism.
The Skåne Cycling Trail will offer cyclists just over 500 kilometers of cycling trails that pass through a variety of experiences in the form of nature, culture, accommodation and food.
– This positions Skåne as one of the better cycling regions in northern Europe. The role of cycling in Skåne is strengthened. By investing in regional cycle routes, Skåne will become a given destination for cycle tourism, which in turn benefits the tourism industry, the public health perspective and the environment, says Ulrika Geeraedts, Development Director, Region Skåne.
Today, the three national cycle routes Kattegattleden, Sydkustleden and Sydostleden stretch along the coast of Skåne. The inauguration of the Skåne Cycle Route creates an even wider range of quality-assured and attractive cycle routes that offer cyclists varied nature and experiences throughout Skåne.
– It feels fantastic that we are getting closer to the fact that both residents of Skåne and visitors will soon have access to an even greater range of connected cycle routes in connection with the inauguration of the Skåne Cycle Route. This enables circular routes that offer cyclists a great variety of both coastal and inland, plains and forests, and will be an excellent complement to the existing national cycle routes, says Lina Jönsson, project manager for the Skåne Cycle Route, Region Skåne.
The cycle paths complement Region Skåne's work with the Skåneleden and its investments in mountain biking.
