Ski tourism company Skistar will introduce parking fees in parking lots near the ski slopes at the company's destinations in Sweden.
This is what Skistar's operations manager Niclas Sjögren Berg says to Nyhetsbyrån Direkt ahead of the upcoming ski season.
The announcement comes after the company tested the concept in Åre for four years. It will be rolled out more widely this winter.
”"Now we are taking another step to create more order and clarity in and around our parking lots. We believe we need it even more this year as more guests are expected to take their own cars to our facilities in light of corona," says Niclas Sjögren Berg.
He says it will cost around 20 kronor per hour and that there will be a cap of 95 kronor per ski day. The fee will be charged for the parking lots closest to the ski resorts. There will be free options a short distance from the ski slopes.
”"Around 50 percent of the places will be free of charge," the Skistar manager tells Direkt, adding that the company wants to eliminate the "uninvited" driving to the ski slopes.
Skistar has raised the price of lift passes clearly more than inflation has been for many years - isn't there a risk of introducing parking fees and a visiting family finding it to be quite expensive?
”"Yes, there may be such a risk. But we are careful to say that there is free parking. And we see that people take the car even if they live in 'ski-in and ski-out' because it is more convenient," he answers and continues:
”"We are trying to create an incentive not to take the car. Partly for reasons of order and order, but also for environmental reasons.".
The management of parking fees will be outsourced to an external company.
