Skövde Airport may be closed

Skövde Airport may be decommissioned and closed on the last day of June 2022 after a unanimous proposal from the municipal executive committee, local media reports.

– This is something that has come about in an intensive process where we can conclude that our only option to offer land for larger establishments is to close down the airport, says Katarina Jonsson (M), chairwoman of the municipal board, to Skövde Nyheter.

In total, 244 hectares of land would be freed up for industrial operations. The closure would mean that the municipal company Skövde Airport's operations would cease.

A decision regarding the closure will be made by the Skövde City Council on September 26.

The airport is 97 percent owned by the municipality of Skövde and has been in operation since 1989. "Flight operations consist primarily of military, business, cargo, taxi and ambulance flights," according to the airport's website.
