Travellers wanting to take a train between Gothenburg and Stockholm over Easter will need to be patient. Practically no journeys on this route have been released yet due to track work. However, many train departures are available on other routes.

Most of SJ's train departures until May 28th can be booked. However, many departures around the Easter weekend itself have not yet been released. This is because Trafikverket (the Swedish Transport Administration) has not announced when track work will be carried out, according to SJ.

We update daily based on the information we receive from the Swedish Transport Administration, so the tip is to check in the morning to see if the route you're interested in is available. They are released as they become available,” says Dan Olofsson, press officer at SJ.

It is primarily from Maundy Thursday to Easter Monday that track work will take place because fewer people are travelling then, according to SJ. There is extra work around Gothenburg, but also to and from the mountain regions.

If the departure you are interested in cannot be booked and it states that track work is planned, there is no risk of it disappearing entirely, at least not for long distances. However, there may be changes in the timetable.

”Since the tickets that are not available for purchase now are being released in batches, there is no risk of the booking system becoming overloaded,” says Dan Olofsson.
