Spain will consider opening the country from May to tourists who have received the corona vaccine, Tourism Minister Maria Reyes Maroto told local Spanish television, writes CityAm.

Maroto said that corona vaccine passports may be available starting May 19 to help the country's hard-hit tourism industry.

Spain is a popular tourist destination, especially for the British. The Balearic Islands, home to Mallorca and Ibiza, are a favourite. They have already decided to welcome tourists back this summer through a vaccine passport scheme. The UK currently has an international travel ban in place until May 17.

In addition to Spain, another southern European country, Greece, announced on Tuesday that tourists will once again be welcome from May 14. 

”Tourists are welcome if they have been vaccinated before the trip, or have antibodies, or can show negative tests,” said Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theocharis.
