Halmstad Municipality has applied for and been granted increased operating support for the airport, with the aim of mitigating the effects of the corona pandemic. The support is paid by the Swedish Transport Administration.
The total operating support amounts to SEK 4,250,000, and the municipal board's personnel and management committee decided during today's meeting to transfer the money to the airline.
Halmstad Flygplats AB receives annual financial support from the Swedish Transport Administration, but the now granted supplement is temporary support in addition to what the company usually receives. The increased support is directly linked to the corona pandemic and the negative consequences the pandemic has had on the aviation industry. The sum of SEK 4,250,000 is based on a calculation model that means that Halmstad Airport has had a loss of revenue of approximately 50 percent in terms of scheduled traffic and charter travel during the pandemic year 2021, compared to a normal year.
– The airport has been hit hard during the pandemic and the extended operating support that we have applied for and been granted is very welcome, says Ella Kardemark (KD), chair of the personnel and management committee.
The temporary operating support means that Halmstad Flygplats AB has been granted financial support totaling SEK 28,973,000 this year. Earlier this year, the airport was granted SEK 2,523,000 in a grant from the Swedish Transport Administration for the operation of the airport in 2022. The remaining SEK 22,200,000 was a group contribution from the parent company Halmstads Rådhus AB for the deficit in 2021.
After consideration by the personnel and management committee, the transfer must finally be approved by the municipal board.
