Travel company Vinggruppen's airline Sunclass Airlines is starting MBL negotiations with Unionen about the future of 170 to 180 cabin crew members. The company is demanding that the employees reduce their salaries by 20 percent - otherwise they will be threatened with dismissal.
The response from the trade union Unionen so far has been no.
On Wednesday, the company called for MBL negotiations, according to Sunclass Airlines' communications manager Lisbeth Nedergaard to Di.
”"The company is calling on MBL and referring to the possibility of terminating employees. This is because the Union has chosen to say no to proposals for salary cuts," she says.
The employees will not be allowed to keep their jobs unless the union backs down from its no, according to the communications manager.
But the resistance from the Union is stubborn.
”"The union's general position is that we do not agree to wage cuts. This is because it will have major negative consequences for employees in the long run," writes press secretary Erik Wirkensjö, pointing to the risk of lower sickness benefit, unemployment insurance, pension, occupational pension, income insurance and also a lower state wage guarantee in the event of a possible bankruptcy.
According to Lisbeth Nedergaard, the proposed 20 percent salary reduction applies until further notice.
A total of 1,200 people are employed by Sunclass Airlines in Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway. In all countries except Sweden, the company has reached agreements with the unions on wage cuts of the same magnitude, according to Lisbeth Nedergaard.
”"Different countries have different systems and they cannot be easily compared," counters Unionen's Erik Wirkensjö, who points out that the union is prepared to negotiate short-time work with state support.
