Petter Stordalen and Wästbygg's 14-story hotel project in Varberg is being stopped. According to Property news The Land and Environmental Court annuls the detailed plan to develop the new Västerport district where the hotel was planned to be completed in 2023.
According to the newspaper, the Gamla Varberg local history association appealed the detailed plan that was adopted in June last year, and the Land and Environmental Court in Vänersborg has now issued a ruling. It states that the detailed plan would cause significant damage to the national interest in terms of cultural environment protection.

The plan was for Norwegian billionaire Petter Stordalen's Quality Hotel to operate the hotel. The hotel building itself is owned by listed companies West building WBGR B -4,00% , Vesterhavsgruppen and the real estate company Casmé where former Gekås CEO Boris Lennerhov is chairman.
It is not just the hotel that is being stopped, but the entire detailed plan, which also includes a parking garage adjacent to the hotel, 500 homes, a preschool, a grocery store and a retirement home.
