Strawberry wants to make it easier for travelers to make choices that are good for both the environment and their wallet. That's why we're now launching the "sleep-friend" room category. From June 1, guests and members will be able to book rooms at half price at all hotels in the Nordics, if they are willing to share a room with a stranger.

Through the Nordic concept Sleeping Buddy, guests and members can book rooms at half price. The room category will be bookable on the website and in the app. You will only find out who you will be sharing the room with upon check-in.

– We are constantly looking for new solutions that meet the needs of our guests and members. When this idea landed on the table, it quickly became clear that this is something that Strawberry should be the first to offer. We want to challenge the traditional and work out new and exciting paths for the industry we operate in. The Sleeping Buddy concept is completely in line with our values and visions, and the rebel in us could not help but bring this to the market, says Marianne Orderud, VP Brand, Marketing and Digital Sales at Strawberry.

One limitation of the concept is that only members with the same membership level can share a room. They have also introduced a rule that guests who share a room must be of the same gender. The goal of the concept is for guests and members to be able to travel more environmentally friendly, more budget-friendly and maybe make a new friend or two. After their hotel stay, guests who have shared a room will be able to give each other reviews in Strawberry's app, similar to apps like Uber. They will also be able to add each other as friends and follow each other's trips in the future.

Should a new Sleeping Buddy be found, Strawberry will also ensure that they can invite each other to dinner, concerts or other activities, if they are staying at the same hotel or are in the same city at a later date.

– We look forward to going live with the new room category, and firmly believe that this is something that our guests and members will use. Daring to think new and different often creates strong reactions, but we hope and believe that this is a new way of traveling that more people will consider in the future. Not only to save money, but because it is a great opportunity to make traveling a little more sustainable and a little less lonely, says Marianne Orderud, VP Brand, Marketing and Digital Sales at Strawberry.

The new room category will be available June 1, but guests and members can already book a sleep buddy via the company's website and app. The concept is being launched on social media today.
