These are some of the reasons why nautical tourism is booming in Croatia.
Croatia is a nautical superpower as the country boasts the most boats for rent in the world – 40 percent of the total supply. Everything from sailboats, catamarans, motorboats to gulets with or without crew is offered here in various price ranges. The number of charter boats for rent is 4,376 according to statistics published in July by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure. Good conditions for a holiday at sea are reinforced by the many marinas. There are a total of 50 marinas, half of which are modern state-owned ACI Marinas, along the Adriatic Sea.
Nautical tourism statistics are pointing upwards for 2022 and the chances of beating the record year 2019 are high. The hectic high season of June, July and August is over, but the sailing season is far from over! The best time for a sailing trip in the Adriatic Sea is now in September and early October.
5 reasons to sail in Croatia in the fall
1. The daytime temperature is still around 25°C and the water is still warm with temperatures of around 23°C in September.
2. Boat rental prices drop by about 20 percent and mooring fees are reduced by about 10 percent compared to high season.
3. Steady wind reduces the need to motor.
4. It is rarely more than two hours of sailing between the Croatian islands. If dark clouds appear in the sky, you are never far from a port.
5. The crowds are gone! There is plenty of mooring space in ports, bars and restaurants are not packed, for example on the island of Hvar, Croatia's St Tropez. The favorite Hvar but also islands like Brač and Korčula are must-sees on the most popular sailing route between the cities of Split and Dubrovnik.
