Air travel via Swedavia's ten airports increased by two percent compared to August 2023. The development is driven by continued strong international travel, which increased by five percent while domestic travel decreased by nine percent. In August, international travel at Arlanda increased by five percent and at Landvetter by four percent.
-Demand for international travel via Arlanda and Landvetter remained strong during August. In this year's summer traffic program, a total of 25 new routes were launched, of which 17 are new routes via Sweden's largest airport, Stockholm Arlanda Airport. In this year's summer traffic program, a total of 25 new routes were launched, of which 17 are new routes via Sweden's largest airports, Stockholm Arlanda Airport and eight are new routes via Gothenburg Landvetter Airport. Several charter initiatives were added at Malmö Airport, Åre Östersund Airport, Umeå Airport and Luleå Airport during the summer.

During August, just over 3.1 million passengers travelled via Swedavia's ten airports. The result in August is two percent higher compared to August last year. International travel increased by five percent to just over 2.5 million passengers, while domestic travel decreased by nine percent to just over 588,000 passengers. Total travel via Swedavia's airports in August is at 83 percent of pre-pandemic levels, 2019.
Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Sweden's largest airport, had a total of just over 2.2 million passengers in August. This is an increase of six percent compared to August last year. International travel increased by seven percent to just under two million passengers, while domestic travel decreased by six percent to just under 255,000 passengers. Overall, passenger levels at Arlanda in August are at 91 percent of pre-pandemic levels.
Gothenburg Landvetter Airport had a total of just over 530,000 travelers during August. This is four percent more travelers compared to August 2023. International travel increased by seven percent to just over 493,000 travelers while domestic travel decreased by 25 percent to just over 37,000 travelers. Traveler levels at Landvetter in August are at 84 percent of pre-pandemic levels.
The other eight Swedavia airports had a mixed development during August. Ronneby Airport followed by Kiruna Airport had the strongest passenger development in August compared to August last year. Kiruna Airport, followed by Luleå Airport, had the best passenger development in August compared to pre-pandemic levels. Malmö Airport, followed by Bromma Stockholm Airport, had the weakest development in August compared to August last year. Bromma was closed followed by planned runway works for four days in August, which negatively affected traffic development during these days.
