The Swedish Pilots' Association fears that SAS's new savings package will worsen the already strained relationship between the union and management.
The relationship between the Swedish Pilots' Association and SAS management is already strained. Martin Lindgren, chairman of the SAS section of the union, believes that the savings package now being presented by management will further deteriorate the relationship.
The Swedish Pilots' Association believes, among other things, that SAS has long been actively working to replace previously employed pilots with newly employed pilots who have not been given the opportunity to organize themselves in a union where they want.
”"Through their actions, SAS management has completely undermined the Swedish model. They do not respect agreements entered into and they do not respect the existing legislation. From what I understand from today's communication, the savings package will accelerate this negative process further. That is something we cannot accept.".
Will the Swedish Pilots Association act on today's announcement?
”"Of course we will act. We have collective agreements that expire at the end of March and we now have ongoing legal proceedings in all three SAS countries regarding the violations of collective agreements and laws that we believe SAS management has committed. We will do what we can to ensure that our members retain the rights and employment security that we believe they should be able to count on in the Swedish labor market."”
Martin Lindgren says that Tuesday's announcement about savings from management was expected and a natural consequence of the current circumstances.
”"It is clear that the pandemic has caused major problems for the industry as a whole and SAS as a company. We are coming out of a winter with omicron where debts have increased further. The company must take action. This is of course something we welcome. The owners and management must take responsibility for ensuring that the company has competitive opportunities into the future."”
