The Swedish tourist passed out after being offered drinks by a man posing as a tour guide. When the 26-year-old Swede woke up, almost all of his belongings were gone.

– The police laughed at me, the Swede told El Colombiano. A 26-year-old Swedish man recently visited the city of Medellín in Colombia. On 1 February he contacted a man who claimed to be a local tour guide.

After visiting several places, they returned to the tourist's hotel where the guide is said to have offered the Swede drinks.

– The guide went to fetch the drinks and returned to the room to serve me. There were two drinks each. We both downed the first one, but he didn't touch the second while I drank half of it, the Swede told El Colombiano.

The Swede started to feel dizzy and fainted.

”Everything had been stolen”

After being unconscious for an hour, the tourist woke up to discover that his laptop, two mobile phones, camera, AirPods, cash, and shoes were missing.

- Everything had been stolen, says the Swede.

All that remained was his passport. The Swede reported the theft but became frustrated by the police's reaction.

"They started laughing at me and left," says the Swede.

He is now back in Sweden and wants to see stronger preventative measures from the authorities in Medellín against this type of criminality.

According to the Mayor's Office of Medellín, an average of 44 foreign tourists report being drugged and robbed in the city annually. Tourists are urged not to accept drinks from strangers and to use established tourist services due to the risk of ”fake” guides, as the Swede experienced.
