Thailand's state-owned airline, Thai Airways, plans to purchase 23 new aircraft for three billion dollars, equivalent to 26 billion kronor.
This is reported by Reuters, citing the country's Ministry of Transport.
The purchases are part of a five-year plan to 2023 and are announced just as the company is in the final phase of a restructuring where the goal is to return to profitability.
Thai Airways made a loss in 2017 as well as in the first quarter of 2018, with net profit falling by 14 percent.
The company has recently appointed a new Chairman of the Board and a new CEO is expected to take office later this year.
Regarding aircraft purchases, the analysis firm Centre for Aviation wrote in June that Thai Airways would probably place an order for 20 aircraft, including A320neo for regional flights with its subsidiary Thai Smile.
Other options under consideration were said to be larger models such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350 and A330neo.
