Thailand is making a U-turn and announcing that people visiting the country do not need to have proof that they are vaccinated against Covid-19.

The announcement that the vaccination certificate requirement would be reinstated was made as recently as Saturday by the country's aviation authority. However, on Monday, Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced that it would not be enforced as it could deter tourists.

According to the minister, an expert panel has assessed that the restriction is not necessary because enough people are vaccinated in the world.

”If Thais welcome travelers warmly and are careful about their own health and safety, the economy will recover quickly after being hit hard by Covid for the past three years,” says Anutin Charnvirakul.

Thailand is now looking forward to a large influx of tourists after travel restrictions due to the corona pandemic were lifted. According to Anutin Charnvirakul, the country is now expecting 7-10 million visitors from China, among others.
