Jönköping Municipality has received funds to finance a new tourism development project in Taberg. The project is in the start-up phase, but there are already big plans for how to develop tourism in the area. Taberg Merchants' Association is taking on the role of project manager and initially an inventory will be carried out to clearly see the conditions and opportunities. Everything is done in close collaboration between local enthusiasts, Jönköping Municipality, Destination Jönköping and others.

– The project feels fantastically fun and very much anticipated for the development of Taberg and the entire Tabergsådalen. We look forward to working with everyone involved to boost tourism in the area, says Johan Lind, head of tourism at Destination Jönköping.

Taberg is located just south of Jönköping and in addition to the incredible view from the mountaintop, the place offers varied nature on and around the foot of the mountain. The idea is that the project will contribute to tourism development both on the mountain, in the mine and around the Tabergsån River and there are plans to create a hiking center with various trails in the area.

– Nature tourism and hiking are a continuing growing trend and Taberg has every opportunity to meet in that area, says Johan.

The idea for the hiking center comes from a local enthusiast and the plan is to develop hiking trails that are suitable for everyone, from children to the elderly and for those who have difficulty walking for various reasons. There will also be hiking trails for those who are more experienced hikers.

– From a tourist perspective, the combination of several different types of trails that suit different target groups is desired. There is a high demand for both shorter tours with start and finish at the same place, but also longer tours and thematic trails such as pilgrimage trails. But also more convenience and service connected to hiking tourism has become more important, and preferably a slightly more luxurious accommodation to combine your hike with, Johan continues.

Taberg has long been a popular tourist destination with both Swedish and foreign visitors coming to enjoy the view from the mountain and experience the mine. The guided tours of the mine in the summer are already very popular. The project will make it possible to create new flows and more experiences for visitors in and around the mine. Tourism operators on site will be able to benefit from these new opportunities and thanks to good connections, not least with the train that only takes 18 minutes from Jönköping, the project also creates added value for operators in Jönköping.

According to the press release.
