The long wait times to renew passports have also increased demand for provisional passports, reports P4 Uppland. But according to the border police at Arlanda, it is not a good solution for those who want to travel.

"You shouldn't expect it to be solved by standing in line for provisional passports. It's important to be out in good time and try to get a regular passport," Commissioner Lisa Granqvist tells the radio.

According to the border police, the pressure is extremely high and the possibility of getting new queue tickets has to be closed during the day. Provisional passports are an emergency solution that is only valid for one trip.

– It is not being used as intended. We are not designed to handle the increased pressure that has arisen due to the passport debt that exists, says Granqvist.

A regular passport and national ID card are applied for at the police. Right now the booking system is very busy and the waiting time can be several months.
