Over 8,000 French people stormed an airport in Brittany early Saturday morning.
Their goal: to start a rave and keep the party going all Easter weekend.
At four o'clock on Saturday night, a group of people forced an entrance to the airport outside Quimper, which has not been used for commercial air traffic since November, several French media outlets report.
Despite the police seizing ”65 cubic meters of sound equipment,” the at least 8,000 people who poured onto the runway managed to set up at least ten different speaker walls and stages, plus marquees. The visitors appear to come from widely varying parts of France and Belgium.
When local authorities learned of the plans, they issued a ban on all unauthorized music festivals over the Easter weekend. "Just try," the revellers replied on a banner, "and we'll party in your gardens instead.".
Breaking up the party and expelling the crowd is not an option. According to local authorities, this would have risked the safety of those involved. Instead, those coming and going from the venue are being checked and reminded that what they are doing is not allowed. Emergency services are on site for any emergencies.
The party is scheduled to continue until Monday evening.
