Torghatten has won its first ferry contract in Sweden. Torghatten will operate the Koster-Strömstad line from December 2025 and two new electric ferries will be built.
The transport company Västtrafik announced this week that Torghatten AB has won the tender for the Koster-Strömstad route. The contract period is 15 years. Torghatten will build two new electric ferries to operate this line. This will further increase Torghatten's green fleet.
This will be the first procured line route that Torghatten operates in Sweden.
– This is a fantastic day for us at Torghatten! We have been working for some time to gain a foothold in Sweden and Koster-Strömstad will be the starting point for us, says CEO of Torghatten AB, Stein Andre Hergistad-Olsen.
In connection with the new agreement, Torghatten will build two new electric ferries, both with a capacity for 248 people. These ferries are being built for 100 percent electric operation.
– In Norway, the ferry industry has taken major steps towards a green transition and as Norway's largest ferry company, we have solid expertise in electric ferries and low-emission technology. We are very much looking forward to offering passengers brand new, climate-friendly ferries between Koster and Strömstad, says Herigstad-Olsen.
In addition to the new contract for Koster-Strömstad, Torghatten operates Zeam, the self-driving and electric city ferry MF Estelle, in Stockholm. Torghatten has a stated strategy to establish itself as a solid ferry operator in Sweden.
