The trams are running again in Gothenburg, after all traffic had stopped due to an electrical fault.

”It will take a few hours before things are running as usual again, we have many miles of tracks to cover,” says Robert Lindberg, press officer at Göteborgs spårvägar.

At 10:30 AM on Monday, a service was scheduled for the backup power supply system to the traffic control centre.

No trams ran in Gothenburg for several hours. The first trams started running again at 13:35.

”When the service began, the fuses for the incoming power blew,” says Robert Lindberg.

The traffic control centre became Thus, without power, and as a consequence, tram traffic can neither be directed nor monitored. Traffic was therefore halted for safety reasons.

The drivers were instructed to drop off all passengers, and thereafter drive with caution to the depots.

”It has been difficult. It's Monday today. Many people are returning from holiday. It's very sad when that happens. In this case, safety must come first,” says Robert Lindberg.

The travellers were referred partly to regular bus routes and partly to replacement buses that the regional public transport company Västtrafik had put into service.

The cause of the error will be investigated once everything has stabilised.

”It was when we were going to service our backup power. Then this will be investigated with the aim that it never happens again.”

All systems should now be fully restored.

”Yes, pretty much,” says Robert Lindberg.
